New: Longer Hours, No-Reservation Seating

September 22, 2020

Two changes to library operations will make it easier for Tar Heels in Chapel Hill to study in campus libraries or to stop by to pick up books.

Effective September 28, both Davis Library and the Health Sciences Library will increase hours of operation. The new schedule will be as follows:

  • Monday through Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: Closed
  • Sunday: Noon to 5 p.m.

Extended hours for final exams will be announced soon.

In addition, those who wish to study in the library will be able to do so without making a seat reservation. The one exception is for private study rooms at the Health Sciences Library, which remain available by reservation only, up to four hours per day.

We will continue to monitor library use and may adjust hours or reinstate seat reservations in response to actual use.

You can help make these changes a success by observing all community standards in library buildings, including maintaining six feet of distancing, correctly wearing an approved face covering at all times and studying from home if you are not feeling well.
