Help us improve Wikipedia articles about Latinx heritage

September 28, 2020

Join the University Libraries and the Carolina Latinx Center as we improve Wikipedia’s coverage of topics related to Latinx heritage. A list of suggested topics can be found here, but participants can edit any Wikipedia article they choose. No subject expertise or Wikipedia experience is necessary.

Ways to participate

On your own, any time from October 1 to 15

Between October 1 and October 15, edit on your own time. Participation is open to all, and all the information you’ll need is posted here.

New editors

Here’s how to participate:

  1. Create a Wikipedia account. Your user name will be public. Consider using an anonymous username, and not your real name, unless you are comfortable with your identity being public for the entire internet to see and identify you.
  2. Visit the Art+Feminism resource guide to learn the basics of Wikipedia editing. The training videos are particularly helpful. Don’t skip the “basic rules of Wikipedia editing” video!
  3. Go to the project dashboard for this program — this is how we’re tracking our impact. Log in with your Wikipedia account and click the “Join Now” button. This will ensure that your edits are counted as part of our collaborative work!
  4. Select a topic to work on. If you’re a new editor, we strongly recommend starting by editing an existing article rather than creating a new one. You can choose from the list of suggested topics on this page, or choose your own.
  5. Start editing! Be bold!
