Ready, Set, Vote: A College Student’s Guide to First-Time Voting

Don’t let the thought of voting for the first time intimidate you! In this workshop, library staff from the Hussman School of Journalism and Media will walk you through exactly what you need to do in order to get informed, feel prepared, and be ready to vote.

Keeping Up with the Candidates

Prepare for the polls this primary election season by finding the most accurate, up-to-date information about the election candidates and the basics of how to vote in your county. This workshop will introduce strategies for researching the candidates’ platforms, funding sources, and voting records. Food will be served!

Writing to Your Representatives

Voting is important, but it’s not the only opportunity you have to make your voice heard! Often, the issues that affect us most in our day-to-day lives are handled at local levels. This workshop will cover the types of representatives you have at different levels of government, and how you can contact them about the things you care about. Free food will be provided!

Navigating the news: Spotting Fakes and Facts in an Election Year

There’s a lot of information floating around the internet and social media, but how do you know what you can trust and what needs a second look? In this workshop, library staff from the Hussman School of Journalism and Media will provide you with some tips on how to navigate your news feed and how to make sure you’re informed and empowered before Election Day.
