Visualizing American Roots Music

August 21, 2014 - January 31, 2015

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Southern Folklife Collection, twenty rare and unique photographs of iconic musicians were on display. They showcased a wide spectrum of American roots music—ranging from the blues, bluegrass, and country, to rock and roll—and highlighted its popular and commercial development over the last century. The exhibition included photographs of Johnny Cash, The Byrds, Mississippi John Hurt, and the Maddox Brothers and Rose.
