The Motions Beneath

A Latin American historian turned to the Research Hub for help with his upcoming book.

Postdoctoral Fellow Laurent Corbeil is a historian of Latin America whose research brings together the social, legal, and urban history of indigenous peoples, colonialism, borderlands, and identity. His upcoming book, The Motions Beneath, explores the thousands of indigenous peoples who arrived at San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

For his book, Laurent needed four maps that would show the establishment and development of San Luis Potosí and its satellite indigenous towns in the early Seventeenth Century. A student consultant and GIS Librarian at the Research Hub created the visualizations using ArcMap, GIS software used to create print-ready maps.
