Given the importance of food to culture and history, it’s no wonder that the history of global food is a rich topic to study. Dr. Michelle King tasked her first-year seminar with creating digital exhibits on topics relating to global food history. Students were instructed to create exhibits around three artifacts (videos, papers, images, etc.). The libraries’ Data Visualization Librarian and a graduate student worker set up a website on Tarheels.live, along with a model exhibit so students could easily add artifacts to their exhibits. The resulting website includes exhibits on everything from the rise of Thai street food to the government’s role in defining the food industry in Great Britain.
