Dr. Alan Glazner of the Geological Sciences Department and student Tyler Wickland designed a 3D model to illustrate a geologic point for his Geological Sciences 72H First-Year Seminar. The cliff behind Dr. Glazner shows numerous layers that look like they are folded, but actually they’re fairly planar and the “folds” are a consequence of the steep canyons that cut through them. Unable to draw this natural phenomenon with much success, he turned to 3D printing to get his point across.
