Description of Work
The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center is seeking an organized and enthusiastic individual to work on digitization and digital publishing. The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center (http://digitalnc.org) is a statewide digital library program housed in the North Carolina Collection in Wilson Library.
The person hired for this position will assign Dublin Core metadata for digital objects, prepare materials for digitization, help to document project workflows, participate in outreach activities, including doing social media for the Center, and photograph original materials in the Digital Production Center in Wilson Library according to local specifications. The DPA will be responsible for uploading materials into the Center’s content management system and reviewing the materials for metadata errors. The DPA will work closely with staff and other students in the Digital Heritage Center.
Education and Experience
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Skills and Abilities: Strong technical skills, attention to detail, experience working with spreadsheets, eagerness to learn new software and skills, and a clear interest in historic materials and digital library projects.
Preferred Skills and Abilities: Candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled in a graduate program in Library Science, Public History, Museum Studies, or equivalent.
Flexible between 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday
