Technical Research Assistant, Repository Services Department, Carolina Digital Repository

The Repository Services Department is seeking a Technical Research Assistant to support UNC’s Open Access Policy, which collects UNC-authored scholarship to make it available to the public. This position will work with the Institutional Repository Librarian to upload scholarly content to the Carolina Digital Repository. This position will require 20 hours of work per week and will last from January 1, 2020 through December 30, 2020 with a salary of $1,336.42 per month. This position may qualify for additional benefits, including the graduate student health insurance. Applicants must be enrolled as a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify contact information and status for UNC-authored articles
  • Obtain PDFs of articles
  • Fill in missing article metadata
  • Perform quality control inspections of metadata and PDF files before and after uploading
  • Batch upload metadata and PDF files to repository

  • Interest in institutional repositories and scholarly communications
  • Attention to detail
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, manage multiple tasks, and focus on
    individual responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of information technologies and familiarity with Windows Office
    applications (especially Word and Excel), Adobe Creative Suite, email, Internet and online
    resources
