Position Summary
The University Library Technician in the Information Access and Discovery of the Health Sciences Library provides circulation and information services to library patrons in person, on the phone, via email and using online chat. Additional public service duties are to answer basic reference search assistance for databases, electronic journals and electronic books in multiple interfaces. They will identify and refer advanced search questions. They identify, resolve, or refer problems with access to electronic resources. This person provides expert search assistance for all UNC-CH library catalogs and interprets holdings records, notes, and arrangement of collections. They explain how to obtain materials that are not available in this library. This person helps troubleshoot basic technical problems with computers, printers and copiers. A primary responsibility of this position is to manage the Carolina BLU service. This includes processing holds on materials and routing them to other campus libraries. The person will clear users in the ILLiad database so that Interlibrary Loan requests can be processed. The person will post hours to the library website and in Sierra, the integrated library system. This person will be able to clearly communicate policies and procedures to faculty, staff, and students. This person will be regularly scheduled to answer questions via the library chat service and edit LibGuides as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

* Demonstrated attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Prior library experience.
* Working knowledge of integrated library systems.
* Prior customer service experience.
* Highly skilled in using LibApps and Atlas.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements
The primary work environment is in the Health Sciences Library. Some instruction or services may be provided in other Health Affairs buildings. The person in this position:
* Must be able to push loaded book trucks, move 30 lbs, and climb kick stools or ladders to remove and reshelve materials with or without accommodations.
* Must be comfortable using desktop/laptop computers and mobile computing devices such as IPADs as well as scanners, photocopiers, and printers.
* All of the work to be performed requires mental concentration and attention to detail. Libraries are currently an area of rapid change as we respond to the impact of online information and the evolution of the means of transmitting information. The person in this position will be expected to stay aware of such changes and participate in a dynamic culture of exploration and experimentation in how library services are provided. Flexibility is needed in the hours available to work.
