Archival Collections Cataloging Research Assistant
The Special Collections Technical Services Department at Wilson Special Collections Library seeks a knowledgeable, motivated, and collaborative individual for the position of Archival Collections Cataloging Research Assistant to work 20 hours per week for the 2019-2020 academic year. This position may qualify for additional benefits, including the graduate student health insurance. Applicants must be enrolled as a graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This position does not include a tuition award. This position is available through the 2019-2020 academic year. Salary is $1,336.42 per month.
This research assistant will create original catalog records for archival collections held at Wilson Library, including collections from the Southern Historical Collection, Southern Folklife Collection, University Archives, North Carolina Collection Photographic Archives, and, occasionally, North Carolina Collection and Rare Book Collection. The person in this position will also create and edit resource records in the Social Networks and Archival Context (SNAC) repository. Tools used to complete this work include MARC21, DACS, OCLC Connexion, and the SNAC interface.
Current UNC graduate student enrolled through May 2020 or beyond. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to work independently and harmoniously in a small group setting. Flexibility and analytical skills needed to resolve complex problems.
Cataloging experience or education. Experience working in a special collections library. Graduate student in library science.
