Pickup service FAQ

Beginning July 13, 2020, you can obtain books and other materials from the University Libraries through our contactless pickup service.

  • Step 1: Find the item in the online catalog and use the “Request” button to ask us to retrieve it for you.
  • Step 2: When your request is ready, you will receive an email from the Library. Follow the instructions to select a pickup time and location. Please do not come pick up your request until you have received the confirmation email.

Who can use the pickup service?

Anyone with an ONYEN or a current borrower’s card may use the pickup service. You will need your OneCard or other proof of identification when you pick up your items.

What items are available for pickup?

Many items from Davis Library, the Undergraduate Library, the Health Sciences Library, the Art Library, the Information and Library Science Library, the Kenan Science Library, the Music Library and the Stone Center Library can be picked up through this service. Please note that some library items do not circulate, and some items may not be available. We will notify you if your request cannot be filled.

How many items can I request at a time?

Please limit your request to 10 items per day.

Where can I pick up my books?

We will hold your books at Davis Library or at the Health Sciences Library, according to your instructions.

Davis Library is located at 208 Raleigh Street. There are two pickup locations. A walkup table will be located near the entrance of Davis Library, between Lenoir Dining Hall and the Student Union, facing the Pit. There will also be a curbside pickup location at the end of Lenoir Drive, in a marked space near Lenoir Dining Hall.

The Health Sciences Library is located at 335 S. Columbia St. The location for both walkup and curbside pickup will be in front of the library.

After August 3, pickup locations will be inside Davis Library and the Health Sciences Library. Davis Library will resume  curbside pickup on Wednesdays only, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., effective August 12.

Can I let you know I am on the way?

Yes, please. Before you come pick up your books, please call the pickup location you have indicated and let us know you are on the way. The number for Davis Library is 919-962-1053. The number for the Health Sciences Library is 919-962-0800. We can also provide additional directions or instructions when you call.

What safety precautions are in place?

Library staff handling your books will be wearing masks and gloves. We will place all items in a plastic bag. If you are picking up your books at a walkup location, please wear a mask and maintain 6 feet of distance from staff members.

We need to see your OneCard or other identification, but we do not need to handle it. If you are in your car, you can hold your identification up to the window and open the trunk. We will place your items in the trunk of your car.

Can I return books at the same time I am picking up items?

We ask that you do not return books through the pickup service. However, book drops are located near the exit of Davis Library and either entrance of the Health Sciences Library for your convenience. We have automatically extended all due dates to August 31, 2020.
