
Monica Figueroa
The University Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Monica Figueroa as its Director of Organizational Development and Library Human Resources, effective November 13, 2023.
Figueroa has been serving as interim director of Library Human Resources and librarian for inclusive excellence since March 2022. This new position formalizes and extends her duties.
In her new role, Figueroa will lead a comprehensive strategic program for human resources, organizational design and staff development at the University Libraries. She will also advance a wide range of workforce, professional and inclusive excellence initiatives, manage Library committees and direct the Carolina Academic Library Associates program.
Figueroa joined the University Libraries in 2016 as a music cataloging librarian. In addition to interim HR responsibilities, she has taken a leadership role in steering equity and inclusion initiatives in the Libraries. Figueroa received the 2022 University Librarian’s Meritorious Service Award and the 2020 UNC Diversity Award. In 2022, she was selected as a Fellow in the Association of Research Libraries Leadership and Career Development Program.
Figueroa earned her M.S. in Library and Information Science at Syracuse University and her M.A. in Ethnomusicology at the University of Chicago. She holds a bachelor of music in Music Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
