Appointment: Assistant Curator for African American Collections

The University Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Meaghan Alston as assistant curator for African American collections effective February 1, 2023.

In this role, Alston will highlight and interpret African American source materials. Her work will include digital curation and storytelling, as well as other forms of community outreach. Alston will also steer the direction of the Library’s African American collections, considering areas for growth and identifying new acquisitions.

Alston was previously a project archivist in the Wilson Special Collections Library. Before coming to UNC-Chapel Hill, she was the prints and photographs librarian at Howard University’s Moorland-Spingarn Research Center. Alston earned her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh and holds a B.A. in U.S. history from The Ohio State University.
