Appointment: Head of preservation and conservation services

The University Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Annie Peterson as head of preservation and conservation services effective January 23, 2023.

In this role, Peterson will lead a new unit that brings together the general collections preservation and materials processing program; the special collections conservation program; and digital preservation activities that support the University Libraries and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She will oversee all aspects of departmental operations, set the department’s strategic vision and represent the Library on issues related to collections care.

Peterson is currently the director of Myriad’s Maintenance Culture project, which creates training and resources to support small institutions in preserving born-digital creative works. Prior to working at Myriad, Peterson was program leader for LYRASIS Learning, an online continuing education platform for library workers.

Peterson earned an M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and holds a B.A. in Women’s Studies from the University of Connecticut.
