A message from interim University librarian María R. Estorino about the library budget

August 30, 2022

Dear Carolina community,

As Provost Chris Clemens announced, the University has restored $3.7 million to the University Libraries materials budget.

We deeply appreciate the dedicated efforts of Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz and the University to restore this funding and we look forward to bringing you journals, databases, books and other materials that advance your research, teaching, learning and patient care.

You may have questions about items that were canceled in 2021 and about what happens next. I encourage you to visit our FAQ for more information or to reach out to the liaison librarian for your discipline. Liaisons can provide the status of specific titles and can help you locate and obtain publications you need.

Please know that the University Libraries is here to support you in all your endeavors. We are always eager to learn about your research, teaching, and study at Carolina and how you use library collections, partner with our expert staff or make use of library service and spaces to achieve your goals.

As we look ahead to the centennial of Carolina’s libraries in 2029, the University Libraries continues to lead conversations about creating a sustainable future for scholarly information. I invite your partnership in these transformations.

We at the University Libraries look forward to hearing from you and working with you and with University leadership to ensure the bright future of our campus, our state and Tar Heels everywhere.

Warmly,

María R. Estorino

Interim Vice Provost for University Libraries and University Librarian
