Todd Smith, user experience research and design librarian, and Karina Soni, outreach projects librarian, have been accepted to the 2022 Minnesota Institute for early-career librarians.

The Minnesota Institute provides leadership development for early-career professionals from historically underrepresented groups. Librarians take part in an intensive weeklong program at the University of Minnesota Libraries followed by four virtual sessions over two months upon returning to their home institutions.

Smith joined the user experience department in September 2021. He had previously worked in the department as a Carolina Academic Library Associate while a student.

Soni was appointed to her current position in the Library communications department in April 2021. Previously, she worked in the department as a graduate assistant and then as social media coordinator.

Both Smith and Soni are graduates of UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Information and Library Science.

Librarians are selected for the program through a competitive application process. The Institute’s 2022 cohort includes 30 early-career professionals from across the nation.
