Appointment: User Experience Research and Design Librarian

Todd Smith is user experience research and design librarian at the University Libraries, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, effective September 13, 2021.

The University Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Todd Smith as user experience research and design librarian, effective September 13.

In this position, Todd will explore the intersection of the Library’s physical and digital spaces and help lead improvements to those spaces. He will coordinate and conduct user research and service and space assessments, present findings to stakeholders, make design recommendations, and work with software development and service owners to implement those designs.

He will work closely with the content strategy librarian to ensure content is delivered in a sustainable model and will join others in advocating and being an active voice for accessibility standards and improvements.

His insights will help provide users with a seamless set of services and spaces that meets diverse sets of user needs.

Prior to this appointment, Todd was organic marketing strategist for TriMark Digital. Previously, he was a Carolina Academic Library Associate in the user experience department at the University Libraries at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Todd holds an M.S. in information science from UNC-Chapel Hill, an M.A. in professional communication from Clemson University, in South Carolina, and a B.A. in English from Christopher Newport University, in Virginia.
