Jason Tomberlin Is Interim Curator of the North Carolina Collection

Jason Tomberlin is interim curator of the North Carolina Collection, University Libraries, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, effective June 1, 2021.

Jason Tomberlin began serving as interim curator of the North Carolina Collection on June 1, 2021, following the retirement of longtime curator Bob Anthony. Jason is head of the Wilson Special Collections Library’s research and instructional services department. He is retaining responsibilities of that position during his temporary role as curator.

As interim curator, Jason will lead the North Carolina Collection team in building and stewarding the collection and sharing the history and culture of the state through exhibitions and other public programs. The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, which has been based in the North Carolina Collection for the past decade, will report to María R. Estorino, the associate University librarian for special collections.

Prior to his appointment as head of research and instructional services in 2013, Jason was North Carolina research and instruction librarian at Wilson Library. Previously, he served as North Carolina Collection interim head of public services and North Carolina Collection special projects librarian. He has also held archivist positions at the North Carolina Office of Archives and History, in Raleigh, and special collections library positions at North Carolina State University and Duke University.

Jason holds an M.A. in public history, with a minor in history, from North Carolina State University, and a B.A. in history from UNC-Chapel Hill.
