Carlos Brandon

Carlos Brandon, support service lead for Library and Information Technology, passed away following an accident on December 25, 2019.

We are saddened to report the sudden passing of our colleague and friend Carlos Brandon, support service lead in Library and Information Technology, on Christmas Day.

Although Carlos had been with the University Libraries for less than a year, he touched many people across the organization with his generosity, patience and skill.

“Many of us, myself included, had come to rely on Carlos’s deep technical knowledge and to appreciate his warm collegiality and genuine kindness,” wrote University Librarian Elaine Westbrooks in a message to staff.

Carlos’s supervisor, A.J. Dean, manager of desktop support, worked with Carlos for many years at the University’s Information Technology Services unit before hiring him at the Library.

“You couldn’t walk anywhere on campus with Carlos without being stopped multiple times,” Dean told mourners at the funeral service. “Everyone knew him, and they always lit up at the sight of him. Nobody spread as much joy and positivity as Carlos Brandon. He was the heart and soul of Carolina. If you met him, then you knew him. And if you knew him, then you loved him.”

Thank you, Carlos, for being our cherished colleague. Rest in peace.
