Grammy-nominated musician and author Stephen Wade (The Beautiful Music All Around Us: Field Recordings and the American Experience) presents in concert backstories and highlights from his latest album, Across the Amerikee: Showpieces from Coal Camp to Cattle Trail (Smithsonian Folkways Recordings). The concert stems from his much-acclaimed book and a lifetime of personal experiences with grassroots singers and players. As one of them memorably remarked about this music made for music’s sake, they transmitted their songs and tunes “across the Amerikee.”
