Student Assistant, General Collection Conservation

The Preservation Department’s General Collections Conservation section, located in the technical services area of Davis Library, is responsible for binding and repairing library materials.  We are currently accepting applications for student assistants to construct bindings and enclosures for books and pamphlets.

The job requires the use of board cutters, glue, a large stapler, and bookbinding tools. Applicants must have good hand skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and neatly.  We are looking for responsible, hard-working, students who enjoy making things with their hands and can work independently in a busy environment.  No prior experience is necessary as training is provided on the job, but experience with crafts, fine art, or hobbies that demonstrate an aptitude for hands-on work may be helpful.  Applicants should be able to follow oral instructions and mimic trainer techniques.

Interested applicants must be able to work between the hours of 8am-4pm Monday through Friday.  We offer a flexible schedule and are looking for a student who can work 10-20 hours per week.  Please submit your application by email to Lucas Darden at the email address below.  In your email you must include a paragraph about why you are interested in this job and any skills or hobbies you have that might be relevant to the hands-on nature of the work.  Click on “How to apply…” below for links to application forms.
