The Systems Administrator will be a key member of our Infrastructure Management Services team responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of IT infrastructure to support the enterprise. Primary focus for this role will be the management of virtualized and physical Linux and Windows servers as well as assisting with the administration of SAN storage, networks, and information security. The successful candidate will have the desire and ability to quickly learn new technologies to solve business challenges. Working closely with team members, this person will deliver IT services that provide business value and align with industry best practices.
Work includes optimizing systems performance, documenting system architecture and processes, troubleshooting systems problems, and analyzing usage and systems load issues of a highly technical nature. Work may include interaction with customers, technicians, analysts, and specialists to troubleshoot problems related to the use of single and/or multiple information systems. Work may include creation, installation, and modification of software and hardware, testing, and documentation on a variety of platforms. May have final technical decision responsibility.
Overall priorities are set in discussion with supervisor and colleagues, but considerable independence is expected in the completion of assigned tasks, and initiative is expected in determining areas for critical progress.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or a Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
The Systems Administrator must have:
•at least 2 years of experience with server administration (e.g. Redhat Enterprise Linux or Microsoft Windows).
•The ability to work independently on tasks as well as collaboratively in a team setting, to prioritize work, and monitor progress against defined parameters.
•The ability to shift between tasks and respond to escalated and emergency issues.
•Strong analytical and problem solving skills
•Strong communication and organizational skills
•Production deployment experience of RedHat Enterprise Linux
•Automation technologies (Puppet, SCCM, Altiris)
•Experience with server virtualization in VMware.
•Background in working with storage (Fiber Channel, iSCSI, NAS, NFS)
•Systems monitoring (SNMP, OpsView)
•Microsoft technologies for identity management (Windows Server, Active Directory)
•Agile work management (JIRA, Confluence)
•Experience with a common scripting language, like PHP, Python, or Perl.
