What is Search TRLN and the TRLN Document Delivery Service?
Search TRLN provides a single search interface to the TRLN Libraries’ Collections. Current faculty, students, and staff of the TRLN institutions can request document delivery of materials from other TRLN libraries within the Search TRLN interface. Requests are handled by the Interlibrary Loan offices at each campus.
Who is eligible?
Students, faculty, and staff who are currently affiliated with UNC Chapel Hill (Academic Affairs) may submit interlibrary loan requests.
What can I borrow?
Circulating items and copies of journal articles can be requested through the TRLN Document Delivery Service. Media materials (DVDs, CDs, VHS), materials in Reference or on Reserve, materials that are “Library Use Only”, journal volumes/issues, and most materials held in Rare Book and Special Collections usually do not circulate.
Books being used as required texts in current classes cannot be requested through Search TRLN.
Note: Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot request more than one article from a single issue of a periodical published within the last 5 years. (If you have questions, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone us at(919) 962-1326.)
How do I submit a request?
Start your search at Search TRLN and locate an item of interest. View the full record by clicking on the hyperlinked title. If the material is eligible for document delivery, click on the “Request This Title” button found in the upper-right hand side of the screen. A new browser window will open.
Click “Go.” You will be prompted to log into your Interlibrary Borrowing Account with your ONYEN and password. If you already have an ILB account, and the item is not a journal, you will receive a TRLN Loan request form with the information about your item filled in. Review the request information and, if correct, click “Submit this Request.” To request articles, search for the journal title in Search TRLN, click on “Submit this Request.” The TRLN copy request form will display with fields for article author, title, volume, year, pages, etc. Enter this information and click on “Submit this Request.” Put any additional information in the “Notes” field.
FIRST TIME USERS: If you do not have an account, you need to complete the registration form. Once you have created your account RETURN to the Search TRLN page, and request your title again.
To request more titles from the Search TRLN catalog, you must return to the separate Search TRLN window.
How long does it take?
Typically, requests from TRLN libraries will be filled within 2 business days.
What if the item can not be filled by TRLN libraries?
If your request cannot be filled through the TRLN Document Delivery Service, we will try to fill your request from another library. Materials from other libraries take longer, up to two or three weeks or more. Allow more time for unusual or specialized materials. Please enter a specific date on the “Not Wanter After” line on the request form.
Where do I pick up my material?
You may select a specific library as your pickup location on the Loan and Dissertation Request forms. Microforms, “Library Use Only”, and fragile materials can not be delivered to non-Davis Libraries, but must be picked up from or used in Davis. NOTE: during this trial period it will take 2 or more business days for your material to arrive at its destination.
When an item arrives you will be notified by email. You can pick up most items at the Circulation Desk of your pickup location whenever that Library is open.
We deliver articles electronically by default in PDF format. Log on to your ILB account; on the main menu, choose “Electronically Received Articles.” This will give you a list of all items that you have waiting to view or download.
How do I request a renewal?
If you need to renew an item, you can request a renewal through your online system page. Renewals must be made by the day BEFORE the due date. The lending library sets the loan period and some libraries do not allow renewals.
