Into the Woods: Digital Exhibit of the North Carolina Botanical Garden

Students in a Science and Literature Course created a website in Omeka with the help of the Research Hub.
English 266: Science and Literature is a unique course that teaches students to foster a real-life connection between books and the natural world through service-learning with the North Carolina Botanical Garden. In addition to studying the writings of important American naturalists, students conducted field studies by identifying, mapping, and measuring tree species in different habitats.

The results of their work included numerous field notes, data visualizations and photos, but how could this information be preserved, organized and made available to the public? A Digital Library Specialist at the Research Hub came to the rescue by helping the class put together a website using Omeka, a tool that specializes in digital collections.
