Summer 2018 Student Assistant – North Carolina Collection Gallery, Wilson Library

The North Carolina Collection Gallery, a public service of the North Carolina Collection (NCC) in Wilson Library, presents a variety of exhibits that feature literature, photographs, and artifacts from the North Carolina Collection’s extensive holdings. It is the responsibility of the North Carolina Collection Gallery staff to organize, document, and preserve the 30,000 museum objects that comprise this part of the NCC and to exhibit them, along with selections from the Collection’s other literary and photographic resources.

 

The NCC is seeking a UNC-Chapel Hill student to fill a part-time position in the Gallery beginning in May 2018.  The person in this position will greet visitors, help with tours, assist with record-keeping and management of the collection and exhibit fabrication and installation.  This position is also responsible for staffing the Gallery on weekends, which includes opening and closing.  Weekend hours are 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays, and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sundays.  Weekday hours are flexible.

 

Applicants should be dependable, flexible, detail oriented, comfortable with basic computer software, able to write legibly, and comfortable with speaking to groups. An interest or knowledge of North Carolina history is preferred.  Student assistants will work up to 8 hours per week in addition to occasional weekends.
