Giving Priorities

The Library welcomes gifts of all sizes to support teaching and research at Carolina. At this time, our fundraising priorities are:
University Library Endowment
Southern Folklife Collection
Southern Historical Collection

University Library Endowment
Your gifts to the endowment will help us build collections, acquire new technologies, foster innovation, and update physical spaces. Flexible, unrestricted funds to the University Library Endowment have never been more important.

The Southern Folklife Collection
The greatest archive of recorded sound in the American South, the Southern Folklife Collection collects, preserves, and disseminates vernacular music, art, and culture. Whether 78s, reel-to-reel tapes, CDs, or MP3s, the SFC seeks to preserve them all for future use. Your gifts will help us acquire music collections and make them available to researchers. Key goals are the hiring of graduate assistants to help with archival and reference work, and expanding online streaming of sound recordings to improve accessibility.

Southern Historical Collection
The Southern Historical Collection is well-known for its Antebellum plantation, Civil War, and Reconstruction materials, though it documents all periods of southern history since the late eighteenth century through unique primary documents, such as diaries, letters, photographs, maps, drawings, oral histories, scrapbooks, and literary manuscripts. Your gifts will help us continue to collect and preserve these unique materials. Primary goals are the hiring of archivists and student assistants to acquire and process manuscript collections and ready them for use.

Endowment and gift funds are essential to these endeavors. If you would like more information about these giving opportunities, or to explore gifts to other areas of the Library, please contact:
