GIS and Spatial Tools for Disease Mapping
February 8 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Geographic information systems (GIS) are digital tools allowing researchers to join diverse data sources based on shared geography. GIS is a valuable tool for many clinical and public health research applications, such as studies of environmental exposures, demographic predictors of health outcomes, and disease clustering. The availability of clinical data from electronic medical records has created new opportunities to study disease patterns using GIS. GIS, spatial data models, and examples of their application in research studies will be discussed.
