Maps Collection

The Maps Collection, housed within Davis Library’s Research & Instructional Services Department, provides principal map research assistance and instructional services for the campus library system. (GIS Services are also available in Davis Library.) The collection houses about 250,000 maps and charts covering the world and parts of our solar system. It also contains atlases, gazetteers, cartographic reference volumes, and government depository publications.

Many materials in the collection may be checked out for brief periods. Depending on the size of the map, it may be scanned or photocopied in Davis Library. If the map is otherwise too large, arrangements can be made to have the map scanned by the University Libraries’ Digital Production Center.

For further information on the types of maps held in the collection, see Maps at UNC, and Beyond. See also our electronic databases and websites related to maps.
